Just a quickie (email) with a DWCS breakdown for ya.
And we're here for all the breakdowns, odds, and best bets for ya.
Crazy outcomes, UFC takes a break, and DWCS
Wow! Two fights last weekend ended in spectacularly crazy fashion, and gave the books all the money. Jacob Malkoun, pretty much the lock of the week, was DQ’d for an illegal blow; and Raphael Fiziev hurt his knee while throwing a kick, resulting in an early second round loss to Gamrot. Welcome to MMA! Outside of that debacle, the whole card was a bit of a liability outside of a few choice selections.
There’s no UFC this coming weekend, so I broke down the whole Contender card for the Patreon members (don’t worry, I’ll leave you with my favorite spot on the card here). There’s also a ton of regional MMA action as well as a Canelo fight, so there’s no shortage of fights to watch and bet on this weekend.
Free Breakdown For Ya!
With no UFC this week, I wanted to get some Contender series breakdowns out, which I usually leave up to Pierce and Brandan, but here’s my favorite breakdown of the card.
Oliveira vs Madrigal
Madrigal is a bjj specialist. His takedowns aren’t good. He tends to be taken down and then scrambles on top where he finds chokes. His stand up offense isn’t horrible when he’s forced to strike. He has a good rear straight that he lands from either stance after pulling away and countering. Defensively, standing, there’s a lot to be desired. He eats leg kicks, and covers and reaches as he looks away from punches. He does stay calm throughout the chaos.
Oliveira is everything wrong with a fighter. He just swings, but he’s effective with it. His chin is up and he barely sets anything up. He has a good low kick from both stances. His jab is more of a pawing feeler, than an actual jab. His takedown defense isn’t great, but when he does get taken down he flails and pops back up. He somehow has horrible cardio and is gasping for air but then never gets tired or slows—similar to DDP. He’s big.
The fight; the bet: Crazy to say, but I think this is an Oliveira fight. Yes, he’s sloppy and crazy and gets hit and gets taken down, but Madrigal is a bit too unimposing here. If he had a bit more power or offensive wrestling, maybe I’d like him more. Oliveira, or if he’s to much of a wild card, fight doesn’t go the distance makes me happy too.
