UFC Goes Back to London!

And we're here for all the breakdowns, odds, and best bets for ya.

UFC London is upon us!

We have a great card in London this Saturday with a lot of competitive fights. Usually, Brandan and I are way more uniform in our picks, but this week, we have a lot of picks where we differ. I’m not sure if that means tail one of us, or avoid those altogether! Either way, there is some dissension among the ranks. That said, it should be a great card to watch, unlike last week’s rather lackluster affair.

Weekly Recap:

Brandan went 4-0 with his picks last week

Solid performance by Brandan and some great money was made by all. This week’s card may prove to be a bit trickier, as there’s a lot of really close match ups, but hopefully a few spots that we like come through!

This Week’s Undercard Fight of the Week

Barez vs Filho

Both of these guys are pretty good, but neither are going to be at the top of the division with their current skill sets. That said, good fight with good fighters.

Barez is pretty well rounded. Good jab. Good low kick. I like his hooks from the inside and I like how he draws opponent’s into him. He has good cardio and actually has decent wrestling. He’ll shoot, and I love how he drives through his shots. He’ll even shoot and take the back. Defensively, is where he can get into some trouble with Filho. Barez is the better technical wrestler, but Filho is a big grappler who will use size and the cage to get the fight to the ground.

Filho is a better striker than he is comfortable with. What I mean by that is he likes to kick on the outside as to use his range and avoid the pocket punching exchanges, but when he does bite down and throw, he’s not bad. He also has good low kicks, but he’s not comfortable in his hands to really exchange for long times. He does haver good grappling and will attack submissions, but he will also lie on his back and accept bjj bottom positions, which, if we learned anything from JDM’s fight last week (and every other time this occurs), jumping guillotine and playing off of your back isn’t a great winning strategy.

I lean Barez between these relatively evenly matched flyweights because of the cardio and fight IQ of Barez. That said, I could see a world where Filho takes the back or finds himself on top to steal enough minutes on the clock.

Landmine of the week

Brandan thinks this week’s landmine of the week should go to Joel Alvarez, who’s hovering around a -200 favorite. I (Santino) think the landmine could be Meatball Molly at around the same price (-200). If you add those to your parlays, you may have some high blood pressure during those fights!

Good luck this week, and happy betting!
