UFC Singapore: Korean Zombie vs Max Hollaway

And we're here for all the breakdowns, odds, and best bets for ya.

The UFC’s back in Singapore

Either set the alarm, or pull an all nighter, as we have an early start this Saturday! The UFC begins at 5amEST, which is 2am/PST due to the Singapore time difference. Usually, Fight Night cards will be held during local time zone afternoon/evenings, where as PPV events will be aired for the Americans and their time zones.

This fight shoots close to home, as Korean Zombie makes his return to the cage for the first time since he lost via heart breaking tko against the champ, Alexander Volkanovski, which I trained and cornered him for.

As for bets, there may be a few fights where the B side pulls out the upset, but the foreign cards are generally held for the foreign local crowd, so expect most of the Asian fighters to take the W.

Weekly Recap:

Sean O’Malley is the new champ, and a lot of people won a lot of $$

In a beautiful knock out, Sean O’Malley unseated the current reigning Bantamweight champ, Aljamain Sterling, to become the undisputed, while Weili Zhang dominated Amanda Lemos to a relatively easy victory, maintaining her control over the division as well.

As for bets, Brandan and I both gave rather good bets:

This Week’s Undercard Fight of the Week

Armfield (-165) vs Kazama (+135)

Armfield’s lone UFC fight was a short notice affair against David Onama, up a weight class. He held his own for a bit, until the bigger fighter wore out his last-minute replacement and found the submission.

Armfield is a good fighter, but the odds were definitely stacked against him on that night. He has a decent wrestling background and will mix his striking with his wrestling to wear opponents down before he finds a tko or a submission. He has been training at Kill Cliff

Kazama is a specialist, which is kind of a dying breed in modern MMA. He’s a bjj specialist, and has medaled at the IBJJF tournaments in Japan. His wrestling’s not D1 level, but he finds a way to drag his opponents down and control them or find the submission.

The fight; the bet: I expect to see Armfield fight off some early takedown attempts and possibly submission attempts, but I think he’ll eventually find his groove and either find Kazama’s chin for a tko victory, or do enough for the judges to give him the win—which will be one of the few non-Asian fighters who I think will walk away from the small nation a victor.

Landmine of the week

I’m not sure there’s a traditional landmine of the week (someone everyone’s on that ends up losing), but be careful with Rinya Nakamura. First, I love him in this spot and as a fighter. That said, he hasn’t fought any non-Asian opposition. Fernie Garcia is a good fight for Rinya, but Fernie has been to the show and knows the game. Let’s hope Rinya doesn’t get Fernie hurt and then blow his gas tank trying to finish the fight, only to see Fernie weather a storm and be there when the dust settles. There’s not a ton of value with a Rinya bet, so don’t add him to all of your parlays…just yet. Let’s see him in his first UFC fight, where he’s not a -850 favorite before we start betting the house on him!

Good luck this week, and happy betting!
